Sima Taparia, the well-known face of Netflix’s Indian Matchmaking, has found herself in the spotlight once again — this time for a controversy involving actress Nausheen Ali Sardar. Nausheen had alleged that Sima declined to find her a match because she was Muslim, a revelation that quickly stirred conversation online about bias and inclusivity in modern matchmaking.

In an earlier interview, Nausheen shared that she reached out to Sima after Indian Matchmaking became a global hit. However, her enthusiasm soon turned to disbelief when she was reportedly told that no suitable matches could be arranged due to her faith. “When I told her I was open to marrying someone from a Catholic, Sikh, or Punjabi background, Sima said, ‘No, we can’t find you someone because you’re Muslim.’ I couldn’t help laughing at how absurd it was,” Nausheen said.

Sima Taparia Responds

Addressing the accusation in a recent interview, Sima Taparia denied any deliberate bias. “Matchmaking is all about destiny, and I am not God. Five years ago, when the show came, they had asked me for matchmaking. I said I don’t do it for that special caste. It’s been five years, and now it’s come up again. It’s okay, I got publicity out of it. I had just refused out of innocence,” she said.

Sima added that she has learned to take both criticism and trolling in her stride. “I enjoy every bit of fame, and I don’t get an ego from it. I have appeared on many shows like Bollywood Wives and Bigg Boss and met many stars. I enjoy it. The youth loves me, and I even enjoy the trolling. Negative and positive publicity, both are good, so why should I be scared?”

Public Reaction and Ongoing Criticism

While her response has cooled the controversy for some, others argue that her comments reflect deeper issues with societal attitudes around religion and matchmaking. Sima Taparia has long faced criticism for her traditional approach, often advising women to “adjust and compromise” in marriage. Despite backlash, her unfiltered views and confident persona have kept her at the center of public fascination.

Her Netflix show, Indian Matchmaking, continues to draw mixed reactions — both praised for its cultural insight and criticized for perpetuating conservative stereotypes.
