The box office calendar for August just got a lot more exciting. Son of Sardaar 2, the comedy sequel starring Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur, was earlier scheduled to hit theatres on July 25. However, the makers have now confirmed a new release date of August 1, 2025, setting up a direct clash with Dharma Productions’ Dhadak 2 featuring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi.

The official announcement was shared earlier today by Jio Studios, stating, “Jassi Paaji and toli will see you in cinemas worldwide on 1st August 2025.” The decision comes at a time when the box office is still buzzing with the blockbuster success of Saiyaara, and the competition for screens is heating up.

Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, Son of Sardaar 2 promises a return to high-octane action and hearty Punjabi humour. Set against the lush backdrop of Scotland, the film brings back Ajay Devgn’s beloved character Jassi, along with a quirky ensemble featuring Sanjay Mishra, Neeru Bajwa, Dolly Ahluwalia, Kubbra Sait, and Chunky Panday. The movie also holds emotional significance as it marks the final screen appearance of actor Mukul Dev, who passed away earlier this year in May.

The film’s trailer, already buzzing on social media, blends nostalgia with fresh madness. It kicks off with flashes from the 2012 original before diving headfirst into the over-the-top antics of its colourful cast. Audiences can expect an unapologetic celebration of culture, chaos, and comedy in true Sardaar style.

Meanwhile, Dhadak 2, a romantic drama and spiritual successor to the 2018 hit, is shaping up to be a strong contender with its Gen Z star power. The pairing of Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi has generated considerable buzz, and Dharma’s signature emotional storytelling is expected to draw a significant crowd.

This double release on August 1 brings with it a classic box office face-off. One film delivers mass comedy with a legacy brand, while the other offers romance and freshness with rising stars. The outcome will depend on audience preference, content strength, and of course, the post-Saiyaara momentum.

For now, both fan camps have something to celebrate. Whether you’re in the mood for laughs or love, August 1 promises to be an explosive Friday at the movies.
