Story Rooted In Folklore And Family

The film follows a young boy living with his single mother in a Manipuri village, grappling with the disappearance of his father Joykumar, who once worked away from home. Determined to gift his mother happiness, the boy embarks on a journey with his best friend to uncover the truth. Is Joykumar dead, or did he abandon them? The emotional quest forms the heart of this moving story of love, loss, and determination.

Voices Behind Boong

Lakshmipriya Devi shared that the film was inspired by her grandmother’s folktales, calling Boong “the book I could not write because of my bad English.” She dedicated the film to the resilience of the Manipuri people and expressed her joy at seeing a local story reach audiences across India.
