Eyes of Wakanda, Marvel Studios’ latest entry in the ever-expanding MCU, has quietly dropped on JioHotstar, and the fan response is already deeply divided. With almost no major promotion or pre-release buzz, this animated anthology arrived under the radar. And for many viewers, it seems to have stayed there.
The series is part of Marvel’s ongoing effort to explore Wakandan lore beyond T’Challa. Through beautifully animated stories and a rich voice cast, Eyes of Wakanda attempts to dive into the legacy and history of the Black Panther lineage. However, despite its visual finesse and compelling potential, the show hasn’t quite hit the mark for a large section of the fandom.
While critics have lauded the world-building and the animation quality, others have pointed out issues with the show's execution. Each episode, though rooted in strong ideas, feels rushed and underdeveloped. The anthology format, instead of offering variety, ends up feeling fragmented due to the show’s short runtime and inconsistent emotional engagement.
This comes at a time when Marvel Studios is still recovering from a string of lukewarm responses to its recent TV projects. Ironheart was met with disappointment, and before that, even What If…? Season 3 divided fans. The one exception remains Daredevil: Born Again, which earned some praise for its return to grittier storytelling.
In contrast, Marvel's theatrical releases like Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps have fared better, signaling a growing gap between its film and TV arms.
The Rotten Tomatoes critic score for Eyes of Wakanda sits at a promising 90 percent, but the audience score trails at 76 percent. Meanwhile, IMDb shows a more restrained response with a 6.5 rating, reflecting the sentiment of viewers who found the show just average.
For long-time MCU fans, the deeper dives into Black Panther mythology are appreciated. But for the casual viewer, Eyes of Wakanda may feel like a missed opportunity ambitious in scope but not powerful enough in execution.
As Marvel continues to build out its post-Endgame universe, the mixed response to Eyes of Wakanda is another reminder that great ideas need more than just visual polish. They need stories that truly connect.
