Son of Sardaar 2 continues to find momentum as it climbs to Rs 14.75 crore after Day 2. Despite facing stiff competition from Saiyaara, the film is showing resilience in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities thanks to strong word of mouth and Ajay Devgn’s mass appeal.
Ajay Devgn’s latest release, Son of Sardaar 2, is slowly but surely gaining traction at the Indian box office. After collecting Rs 7.25 crore on its opening day, the film showed a marginal but meaningful growth on Saturday with Rs 7.5 crore, taking the total domestic collection to Rs 14.75 crore.
The sequel brings back Devgn as Jassi, a lovable simpleton caught in a whirlwind of chaos, and seems to be resonating with audiences that enjoy traditional masala entertainers. The film opened to mixed reviews but has managed to find a decent footing, especially in the northern circuits and among family audiences who are turning up in the evenings.
Saturday’s box office numbers reflect that exact shift in momentum. While morning shows started on a lukewarm note, occupancy steadily grew through the day. By the time night shows rolled around, several cities saw packed houses, with occupancy touching nearly 45 percent in major single-screen theatres.
What’s giving Son of Sardaar 2 an added push is the nostalgia factor. The original 2012 film, though clashing with Jab Tak Hai Jaan back then, had its own cult following. Devgn’s comic timing and action persona worked then, and he attempts to recapture the same magic here with a script that leans into chaos and sentiment.
However, the film isn’t having an easy run. It faces a formidable opponent in Saiyaara, the youth-centric love story starring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. Saiyaara has taken the box office by storm, rapidly approaching the Rs 300 crore mark, and has left most big-budget releases in the dust. Its wave has clearly cut into Son of Sardaar 2’s urban multiplex audience.
Yet, Devgn’s film is finding support in unexpected places. Smaller towns, late evening slots, and word-of-mouth chatter are slowly working in its favour. Many trade analysts believe Sunday could offer a better spike, potentially pushing the film past the Rs 22 crore mark by the end of its opening weekend.
The big question remains whether Son of Sardaar 2 can sustain beyond the initial weekend, especially with more releases lined up in August. But if its current trend holds and its core audience keeps turning up, the film could hold its own and enjoy a decent theatrical run.
Ajay Devgn, meanwhile, continues to be one of Bollywood’s most bankable stars, and with projects like Raid 2 and Singham Again on the horizon, the actor shows no signs of slowing down.
For now, the box office race is heating up, and Son of Sardaar 2 is far from out of the fight.
