Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps has officially wrapped up its first week at the Indian box office with a solid total of Rs 27.91 crore. Released on July 25 across multiple formats including IMAX 3D, the film brought in impressive numbers during its opening weekend but has since faced noticeable weekday drops.
Starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, the film unfolds in a retro alternate universe set in the 1960s. The storyline follows the Fantastic Four as they take on the looming cosmic threat of Galactus, portrayed by Ralph Ineson. With sleek visuals, period design, and a nostalgic tone, the film had all the right ingredients for a major hit.
The first weekend proved promising. Day one brought in Rs 5.5 crore, which jumped to Rs 7.35 crore on Saturday and held nearly steady on Sunday with Rs 7.25 crore. But like many tentpole releases, First Steps struggled to maintain momentum during weekdays. Monday saw a significant dip with only Rs 2.07 crore collected, followed by small gains on Tuesday (Rs 2.19 crore), then further decline midweek with Wednesday bringing Rs 1.53 crore and Thursday slipping to Rs 1.05 crore.
The English-language version has dominated ticket sales, contributing over Rs 19 crore to the total. The Hindi dubbed version added another Rs 6.3 crore, while Tamil and Telugu versions managed smaller contributions.
This decline might be cause for concern considering the fierce competition from Indian releases like Kingdom, Dhadak 2, and War 2, which have created significant noise at the domestic box office. Even so, Fantastic Four: First Steps has kept Marvel’s presence alive among Indian fans, especially with its premium IMAX 3D experience drawing footfalls in metro cities.
Directed by Matt Shakman and written by a team including Josh Friedman and Eric Pearson, the film also features a score by Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino. The buzz around the unique 1960s setup and fresh casting helped the film attract early attention, but now all eyes are on its second weekend to see if it can recover momentum.
Whether it continues to soar or slow down further will depend on word of mouth and how newer releases perform. For now, it remains a decent entry for Marvel in India, even if it falls short of the franchise's past highs.
