Dhadak 2 has finally arrived in cinemas, and with it, a storm of mixed emotions, powerful performances, and sharp social commentary. Starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Tripti Dimri, the film marks a daring shift from its 2018 predecessor, diving even deeper into the harsh realities of caste discrimination and forbidden love. However, despite its emotional punch and critical acclaim, the film has recorded a modest opening at the box office, pulling in Rs 58 lakh on Day 1.

According to early trade reports, Dhadak 2 sold around 18,000 tickets across India, despite releasing on only 1,000 screens. The film’s limited rollout seems to be a calculated move by Dharma Productions, likely testing waters before expanding its footprint. But can such a strategy work when competing with heavyweight releases?

The timing of Dhadak 2 is both daring and unfortunate. It released alongside Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom, which stormed past the Rs 15 crore mark on its first day. Adding to the pressure is Son of Sardaar 2, headlined by Ajay Devgn, and the unstoppable juggernaut that is Saiyaara, which had an explosive Rs 25 crore opening and continues to dominate.

Still, Dhadak 2 has one major thing going for it audience love. Social media is buzzing with praise for the film’s emotionally charged second half, raw storytelling, and heartfelt performances. Many viewers are calling it one of Siddhant’s best roles yet, while Tripti Dimri continues to shed her earlier image, evolving into one of the most dynamic actresses in the industry.

The film’s discography has also gained early traction, with fans appreciating its ability to amplify the film’s emotional tone. At the same time, some debates have erupted online, with a few viewers raising concerns over the film’s depiction of caste and skin tone makeup. These conversations, though complex, only further indicate that Dhadak 2 has struck a chord one way or another.

Based on the critically acclaimed Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, this sequel is far more than a rehash. It challenges, it provokes, and it dares to be honest. And in doing so, it has opened up a space in the mainstream where hard-hitting cinema can co-exist with big-ticket entertainment.

While the numbers may not reflect a blockbuster start, the real story of Dhadak 2 may only just be beginning. If positive word of mouth continues to build, the film could defy expectations and create a long-tail box office presence over the coming weeks.
